Some boys were looking at magazines and newspapers in class at school. They were talking about which women in the photographs they’d like to “bang” and which women had “big tits”. They read the periodicals in full view of the teacher and talked in loud voices. The teacher did nothing and I was too embarrassed to report it.

How should incidents like this be reported?

Are these reportable incidents or are these just teenage boys mucking about?

I was never ever told what to do if something like this happened.

My school had a “zero tolerance” anti bullying policy that we all had to sign, but it talked about direct interactions between students only. It didn’t ever talk about what to do if you overheard something explicit that made you feel uncomfortable, but wasn’t actually directed at you.

It also assumed, wrongly that teachers could never disrespectfully bully students or could never allow hostile work environments for students to exist.
