M Kelly

During a review early in my career, I was complimented on my performance and told that the company would “never want to lose me.” I was given more responsibilities but would not be receiving a raise. And, then the boss explained that I needed to understand that the company had a limited amount of funds for raises. He continued saying “Jimmy, Chris, Bob, and Steve would eventually marry and have families to take care. However, someone would marry me and I would be taken care of, so I didn’t need the money.”

Needless to say I started a search for a new job the next day.
