One of my friends (female, 30s) told me that she quoted something that someone she was working with said and her supervisor (male, 60s) responded, “It makes me horny when you say that.” Unfortunately, he has apparently had multiple complaints against him and remains fully employed. We discussed that this would be sexual harassment and grounds for dismissal in most other countries.

I (16) went to a friend’s party where there were a lot of people (especially guys) that i didn’t know. I hadn’t ever drunk that much so didn’t know my tolerance level, and because there were so many people i didn’t know and i’m shy i drank far too much. A guy took advantage of me and groped me while i was too drunk to articulate that i wanted him to stop (though i tried my best, asking if we could just talk instead). His friends were really creepy and gathered around to watch, some of them filmed it – this i didn’t know until a week later when my friend told me that her cousin who goes to the same school as the guy saw the video.

When I was 14, on my way home for school I passed a group of maybe 5 boys. As I was passing them one of them speed up and walked just behind me saying “Hi” over and over. I was getting uncomfortable with this but I just speed up more, he was persistent though, and kept following me. Giving up I just said Hi back and then hi to another one of his friends who had also said hi to me, then I just kept walking faster. the first boy said “no wait, my friend thinks your hot”. this kind of shocked me ’cause I had never experienced anything like that before. A couple of terms later, those same boys were walking behind me again. I heard 2 of them talking right behind me saying “should we sandwich her?” “yeah, I’ll take right, you take left.” I veered off to one side and they met just in front off where I had been. one of their friends looked back saw them, saw my probably scared and pissed face and laugh and said “showing off for your girlfriend.” Its been a year since this happened and I still haven’t told anyone because I am worried someone will say its not a big deal but it really scared me.

I was going to a maths competition with about 5 other students during college. We were all in a van and there were two boys sitting in the backseat and I was a row in front of them. There were 3 seats in the back and the boys told me to sit next to them. Me, thinking that it was a compliment because when you’re a young female you’re engrained to measure your self-worth based on how desired you are or accepted you are by males, went straight away. I had to squeeze past both of them to get to the spare seat. while I was squeezing past one, he grabbed my ass as if to guide me. I finally sat down and kind of laughed it off. I fell asleep on the ride to the maths competition and was woken up by the guys giggling and speaking in hushed tones and a feeling of someones hand rising up my thigh, underneath my skirt. I tried to make it obvious that I was waking up, did a little stretch and a big yawn so they had time to take out their hand before I ‘woke up’ so I didn’t have to confront them or have an awkward situation or them probably making me feel like it was just a funny prank and I wasn’t cool for having a problem with it. I was 13

Boys in my year think they have the right to comment on the size of my boobs when it’s none of their buisness. They also comment on my weight and make jokes about it.

Can the lead characters in animated animal movies not be female? My 4 year old daughter has recently watched the animated movies ‘Bee Movie’ and ‘Barnyard’. In Bee Movie all the main characters are male despite the majority of bees in a hive being female – there are no male worker bees. Even worse, in ‘Barnyard’ the cows (with udders) are male! That’s not just sexist, it’s completely ignorant. I can’t decide if it’s hilariously ignorant or just plain stupid.

I was a tall girl growing up. At family parties: a man (an adult) lifted my shoe into the air for everyone to see and joked about how much wine he could drink out of it; I was constantly told I was a “big” girl. I LOVE to see grand, tall young women friends revelling in their size and their bodies.

As a working woman, I experience subtle sexism regularly. However, what I didn’t expect was to turn on the news to see the leader of my country ( he of the ponytail pulling incident) accusing members of parliament of backing rapists. This after they protested the unjustifiable detention of NZers in Australian detention centres. These centres have attracted UN criticism and the issue was being raised as a humanitarian concern. Among those accused by our PM were a number of women who had been victims of sexual violence.

Staff uniform.. My boss was handing out our new work tshirts. Mine was different from my male co-workers (as in, mine would fit my seven year old nephew better than it would me).

I was in Munich walking back from the Allianz Arena, when a couple of young men came walking towards me. When they saw me the yelled out “boobs boobs boobs” and couldn’t stop staring. I was 14 at the time and my parents were right next to me, but that didn’t seem to bother them.
