Seems so standard. But I’m posting as I want to know how other women handle this – is there a good phrase they use to shut it down? It’s happened twice in last two weeks at significant meetings….ideas please! It goes like this and I suspect is sadly familiar to lots of people; 1. Unclear or contentious discussion point 2. I am only female in meeting 3. I make a point that is constructive and insightful 4. Male colleague repeats back what I have said 5. Male colleague is thanked and praised for his (my) contribution by someone more senior Should I call it out at that point? Should I have a word afterwards? Feels like I can’t win what ever tactic I use….

I am an American woman, married to an American man, now living in France (moved here 7 months ago). Ever since I started doing paperwork related to anything French about 9 years ago when we bought a home here, I’ve been amazed at how often the documents do not allow me to use my actual name. I didn’t take my husband’s last name when we married 20 years ago, and the majority of official joint paperwork here only allows for Mr. and Mrs. _____. It means that oftentimes my name cannot be on utility bills, as well, because they will only take one last name, not two.
