When I asked my boss for a raise in 2017 America, he said, “Your husband has a job and makes bonuses though, doesn’t he?”
I stared at him. He laughed like it was a joke. I said, “This concerns me. My husband has nothing to do with this – and if he did, I would still need more income in case he dropped off the earth unexpectedly.”
I didn’t get a raise. He said it wasn’t a good time.
