I was in a taxi in Cape Town at the weekend when the driver decided to enlighten me with his views on women being incapable of running anything as we are inferior to men. He claimed that this is proved by the fact that there are so few countries with female leaders. He said that it is the word of God, and that we are flowers who need protecting. Apparently this is why God decreed that a man should only lightly beat his wife, using something like a handkerchief.
