I posted a question on a community forum to which I belong. Two men answered with information that was unrelated to my question, but which they felt I needed to know. That I knew this information was evident by the wording of my question. I called out their mansplaining. Another member of the forum lambasted me for that; admonished me for “…make yourself appear ungrateful and difficult.”
Then this advice: “If a man responds to you in a similar manner, it may be worth considering replying in kind. The gender of someone helping you has nothing to do with anything.”
I told him I’m an old woman and have spent decades putting up with stuff that men have said; of protecting THEIR feelings when it’s they who have erred. I directed him to this website. But don’t hold out much hope. It’s a shame because he looks young and recently married.
I’m just so thankful that this site exists. It helps make sense of the small, everyday injustices, slights and sexism I experience regularly. If not daily.
Thank you
