I went for an interview for a Store Management position in the retail sector, it was actually with someone who used to work at the same company as I did. Anyway, quite quickly into the interview he proceeded to ask some very personal questions, was I single, did I want children etc, which I thought was strange. He then said I don’t usually hire women, because they usually can’t handle the pressure I put them under, but I have to admit, you’d look great in my stores. I don’t think I need to say much else, his words explained everything about the patriarchy, everyday sexism and that we clearly live in a their world.
