I was born deaf. I’m always afraid to go into the city and almost never go alone. Not because my disability makes things inaccessible, but because there have been multiple occasions of men catcalling me, and becoming aggressive when I ignored (didn’t hear) them. One man pushed me to the ground and threatened sexual violence after he tried to cat call me and I didn’t respond. Now I always bring a hearing friend with me when I go out. I feel much safer that way.
